A Welcoming Presence
Martha Martin is always looking for new ways to make those attending Downtown Faith feel invited and welcomed. She is also on the front lines as an ER Tech/Phleb Tech at Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center. Her faith shines and helps all in her presence.
In 2016, Martha “partnered with my husband [Jeremy] in starting Downtown Faith. It was his vision, and I was happy to be a part of it,” she explains.
She is very passionate about helping people feel like they belong. This is an easy way for her to create a welcoming environment for the guests of Downtown Faith.
“I’ve been able to connect with lots of different people in this role, but the most special to me is the connection I had with a sweet older lady named Ardelle. She was skeptical to come at first but decided to give it a try. After visiting that first time we became good friends and I was able to use some connection I have inside downtown Faith to help her with some car problems she was having. She is so sweet and so special and my kids adore her and she adores them. It’s a beautiful thing to bring the first person to greet someone. You never really know how impactful you are”
As for her profession, “I have always worked in healthcare in one way or another since 2006. I have always had a desire to help people, and my job allows me to do just that. I love my job and am very thankful for the stability of my job during this COVID pandemic,” Martha explains.
“Although I am thankful, I am also increasingly scared. This pandemic is ugly. While I have seen a lot of sad and scary things working in the Emergency Room, none have made me feel the unease I feel every time I go into work. It is quieter and more somber every shift. There is still so much to be discovered about this virus and that not knowing is what has me feeling a bit scared. I know, though, that God is constantly working in my heart to give me peace and to fear less. He continues to protect my family and me. I love what I do and am honored to help those who are less fortunate.”
Originally from West Virginia, Martha moved to Las Vegas with Jeremy in 2009 for an internship at another local church for a year. They loved it so much they decided to make Las Vegas home. When they moved to Downtown Las Vegas in 2015 to start Downtown Faith, and Martha fell in love with Las Vegas all over again.
As for her role as guest services lead, Martha explains that it would never be effective without a great team of people who volunteer with her. “I may be in charge of making sure we have what we need, but in order to make the magic happen, my team is what brings it all together.”
